Gillian Chung’s wedding banquet venue revealed—every bit as impressive as the lavish celebrations of Hannah Quinlivan and Angelababy!

She Got Married

Gillian Chung, who once sang, \"After the weather changes, becoming a bride is still a dream,\" has finally tied the knot.

She got married at a five-star hotel in Los Angeles, with a 95-year history. Her wedding was on May 25th, to Los Angeles time, early morning May 26th, Beijing time.

To the effect of being unapologetically romantic, the venue was filled with purple and pink flowers, and the center of the venue had a T-shaped runway lined with candles.

In a 2018 wedding gown by Jenny Packham, Gillian was the radiant bride.

As much of a focus of the day as Gillian was, the other focus was her groom, Michael Lai Hung-kwok.

He is a bit of an enigma, as he is not an entertainer. He is a doctor from Taiwan who had garnered a modest following on social media due to his looks. Most important, however, was his warmth and thoughtfulness, which won Gillian over.

Gillian's manager Mani Fok, her godfather Jeffrey Lau and his wife, and Laurinda Ho were also there, as well as close family from both sides. Her close industry sisters Joey Yung, Charlene Choi (Ah Sa), and Yumiko Cheng were all bridesmaids.

Yumiko's daughter, Leung Chum-chum, and Gillian's godson were the flower children. All 3 bridesmaids are Gillian’s long-time friends. Choi, for example, has had a 17-year-long friendship with her, and she gave a very emotional and tearful speech at the wedding. The lobby is 1930’s lavish with carved wall detail, ornate ceiling treatments, a skylight, wooden floors, and a fine patterned carpet. Most of the nearly century old atmosphere is intact.

A small central fountain is reminiscent of a mini French garden, and combined with gilded wood ceilings and medieval-type chandeliers, it adds a stately presence to the lobby.

—Palace-Inspired Rooms—

The guest rooms are large and the classic style matches the hotel’s overall character. Gilded touches on desk and mirror frames and lamp bases add to the European palace style. The mattresses are thick and supportive (not overly soft), minibars include coffee machines, and ice buckets.

—Restaurants—

For Asian cuisine, go to Sai Sai Restaurant, for Italian go to Smeraldi’s Restaurant. Breakfast at both is a highlight with a generous selection of fruit, breads and pastries, sausage and bacon, yogurt, juice, etc. What a strong start to the day!

—Gallery Bar—

Jazz is performed live Friday and Saturday evenings. The bar is an enjoyable old-world escape with a drink in hand and vintage music playing.
